So I decided the Diamond-seed baby jacket will be for the girl colleague A will be having.
There's something very satisfying in finishing a garment with 4-ply yarn, even if it's just a tiny one using up three balls of yarn. While I'm all for bright or dark colors for baby wear, I thought it safer to gift with a lighter shade. And if you think blue isn't really for girls, the little heart shaped buttons should compensate for that. :-)
I love that the pattern (from Interweave Knits winter 2004) is written for knitting in one piece up to the armholes, and that the front bands are knit at the same time as the body, but wish there were more sizes than just the one. The Filatura di Crosa Dolce Amore yarn is wonderfully soft, though a bit splitty. It would make a great substitute for Rowan 4-ply cotton.
Something for the baby to grow into, probably a jacket for the air-con cold indoors next year. I'm thinking of giving this away before the baby is born, when the parents still have the energy to appreciate it. ;-)
Gosh, what a great baby jacket! I didn't like it too much in Interweave and I think it's because of the color they used. But yours looks fabulous!

It's so beautifully knitted. The soft shade of blue is fine for either a baby girl or boy. I like this pattern very much, the diamonds remind me of a sweater in Sarah Dallas' Vintage Knits that I like.

Oh how sweet. I too love the look and satisfaction of 4ply but have to take some deep breaths to get going with it. Looks well worth the effort in this case, what a lovely gift.

The mini cardi is lovely and the light blue tone will be a nice addition to a girl's wardrobe.
The toy bear photo with the baby's cardi looks so cute! ;)

I might knit it in a thicker yarn to make this design fit one of my daughters. This is so lovely!
