Say that, Yoda would.*
I've started getting antsy working solely on Martha these past two weeks, but the end is in sight, especially since I'd already done the shoulder seams and neckband. The first sleeve is at the cap shaping and then it'll be down to the last sleeve and me. Hmm, it's about time to think about the next project.
There's Maytime, which has been woefully neglected. I've been thinking of ways to avoid doing those crochet squares because mine look really inconsistent between squares and beyond what could be construed as charming mistakes. Perhaps I could try a feather and fan hem. Suggestions, anyone? Other would be, could be projects include the stripy vest, for which I've not made diagrams nor swatches, the Phildar baby pants, or something lacey, like the Madli shawl from last summer's IK.
But I'll focus on Martha for now. The thing that keeps me going is the beading. I'm really quite happy with it. It's pretty and the pink is a color I know I'll wear. I think the beads have caught the boys' attention too. Yu, my five year old, asked me to teach him to knit. All three boys were interested at one time or another, usually when they see a yarn they like. Normally I brush it off because my husband wouldn't like it, a reason being that it'll speed up myopia(!), but also because they have a lot of other activities to keep them busy, plus the studying, which is all important in HK. Hmm, I wonder if all that studying is not bad for the eyes too.
Anyway, I had just read an anecdote in At Knit's End where Stephanie is taught to knit when she was five. Before I knew it, I cast on ten stitches. We were all hands for the first couple of rows, with me holding the yarn and Yu the needles. Then it was just him. His earnestness is so touching. Sweeeet! And so clever, which shouldn't have been surprising because he's MY son, after all. :-) I told him we'd make a bowtie and he was sooooo happy. Sweeeet! Guess we'll do just a couple of rows a day to avoid eyestrain. :-)
*I'd go see Star Wars in the theatre. I'd see reruns on TV. I love Yoda but I'm not a Star Wars 'fan'. However, my husband is, and he's been willing to stay up past midnight to watch episodes 1 and 2 on TV the last two Sundays. We saw episode 3 last night and there's 4, 5 and 6 to look forward to the next three Sundays. The point is, it's usually lights out by eleven o'clock at our house so we're talking about a lot of extra knitting time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Looking forward to Sunday. Have a great weekend, everyone!
Yes, yes ... keep going ... the end is in sight!
My husband thinks the old Star Wars movies were excellent but both of us were extremely disappointed at Episode I & II. However, there have been so many good reviews about the coming Episode III that we think we are going to give it a try.

Martha's one sleeve away from wearing - that's really fast work considering it's fine gauge, & it's looking pretty too. And what a good idea for Yu to knit a bowtie.

Really sweet of Yu to take to knitting. There's an old issue of IK with lots of knitted ties pattern. Maybe he can make one for his daddy for Father's Day, I'm sure he'll be pleased. Ji Yuan sometimes expresses her wish to learn to knit too, especially when she sees pink yarn on the needle.

Finish Martha you will and then happy you will be Obi Wan! We went to see Return of the Sith last night, today the kids bought the xbox/playstation games. I am now writing this whilst listening to the sound of light sabres!

Martha is looking really nice and I'm sure you will be wearing it pretty soon.
That's great that you can have a lot of family and knitting time while watching Star Wars series.

The Martha is amazing, all those little beads and the chop sticks needles. Kudos to you! I think I wouldn't even consider such a project. Just another sleeve to go, ADD OIL!

By the way, knitting is a great way for children to learn small motor skills. Try Melanie Falick's "Kids Knitting" for projects. Knitting is also good for learning cause-and-effect and of course math, for developing hand/eye coordination, and the self-esteem of "I made that!" Go for it!

Beautiful Martha - can't wait to see it on you when it's done. Maybe it'll give me more inspiration to make mine with beads....!
