than finding a mistake in your garter stitch?
It's a reknit of the cherry scarf, which I'd mentioned over a year earlier. I guess I just didn't like my uneven stitches, and the way I'd woven in the ends (kind of lumpy) that the cherries were't getting attached to the first scarf, which was knit up over two years ago. So it's being reknit with new yarn (yummy Jaeger extrafine merino), and because it's a gift, it has to be done soon, so no more dilly dallying! Anyway, I think I made that mistake because I started this right after I finished the last piece of Maris (from Rowan 41), whose second last stitch on every row was a purl. Here're the Maris pieces ready to be seamed up:
A trip to town to the notions store is in order. Maris is an open cardi, with the front bands flipped outwards, buttoned down on both sides. I can't decide between colorful buttons and pearl buttons on bleach white. Any thoughts on that?

Pearl or shell - more elegant unless you are going for a casual look.

Well, to look on the bright side, at least it's the 2nd stitch on the side so it's fixable. Would be a bummer if it was the edge stitch! Wow, you are fast with Maris!!

I was eyeing Maris too ;) you're so fast! I'd go with colourful buttons, but pearl buttons would be pretty too, sorry can't decide.

how did you get maris done so quickly? i vote for pearl buttons...definitely more elegant

I'd go with shell buttons (as the first commenter suggested). I think that would be elegant but still work for a casual outfit.

Maris is one of the patterns that appeal to me, at least from what I can see in the small online pictures of it. I haven't set eyes on Rowan 41 yet so it will be wonderful to see your version of it first. I would go for white buttons :)

Ooh I dont know what the pattern looks like, but I like the idea of pearl buttons, very elegant.

Oh but the scarf still looks so scrumptious! :)
I just got my Rowan 41 today and love the way Maris looks. Can't wait to see how yours finished up!

The shell button idea sounds really good. All those KH kits have shells buttons... ...

I vote for pearl too, or perhaps fancy ones, like handpainted or porcelain... ;o)

pearl or shell definitely.
i think colourful buttons will most likely detract from the elegance of Maris.. :)

I didn't notice that mistake for so long...and then I finally noticed...well if I can't notice I bet very few people will!
I am thinking pearl buttons would look best, unless you are thinking for more of a bright and playful look, which then you should go with colorful.

there is something wonderful about the mindless absorbing meditative quality of garter stitch- so one little stitch is just to remind us to come back to earth.

I think pearl or shell. It looks really classy then, and you can wear it with anything, whereas if you put coloured, you wiill limit what you can wear it with!
